Mantic Games’ latest Kickstarter is blazing with a hellish light — and for good reason. Hellboy: The Board Game is their newest project, and with five days left in their campaign have surpassed their original goal by $1,355,918.
The game can be played with one to four players and puts you in the shoes of an agent of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence (BPRD). Playing as Hellboy, Liz Sherman, Abe Sapien, or Johann Krauss, players will investigate occult threats and battles terrifying villains such as Rasputin and a devious Tentacle Monster. Each Hellboy game will include figurines handcrafted with care from PVC plastic that truly capture the feel of Mike Mignola’s, the creator of Dark Horse‘s Hellboy and the BPRD, work.
Basically, the Hellboy: The Board Game is split into two parts: the investigation and the confrontation. Each playthrough will focus around a specific investigation from the BPRD case files. Depending on how you play, players can rush toward the confrontation, the ultimate battle, or they can explore for items or artifacts that will assist them in the fight. But tread carefully — artifacts cost money and you have a deadline to meet!
Because of the Kickstarter’s massive success, pledges can enjoy an insane amount of stretch goal goodies. More than a handful of new villains and baddies have been included, like the Conqueror Worm, Nazi troops, and other creatures that go bump in the night. For a limited time, those interested in supporting Hellboy: the Board Game can add additional goodies like 3D-printed furniture and the Hellboy Goes to Mexico expansion pack.
Mantic Games is responsible for other board game such as The Walking Dead: All Out War, Mars Attacks — The Miniatures Game, Kings of War, and many others. But, needless to say, we’re pretty stoked to see Hellboy featured in his own board game. Are you looking forward to it as much as we are? Let us know in the comments below!
