Following the trend of most anticipated releases, The Wolf Among Us 2 has been delayed until 2019. Unfortunately, the narrative-driven game was set to release sometime later this year, about five years after the first season of the Telltale series.
A post on Telltale’s website detailed the reason behind the delay:
This delay comes as the result of a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer.
Most importantly, we’re committed to exploring new ways to tell our stories. Taking this extra time will allow us not only to focus on quality but also to experiment and iterate in order to craft something truly special.
Ultimately our goal is to deliver an experience deserving of the passion you’ve consistently shown for The Wolf Among Us, and these extra months will give us the time we need to do our best work. We’re extremely enthusiastic about how the game is progressing so far, and we can’t wait to dig even deeper.
The “few fundamental changes” probably refers to the massive layoffs in Telltale late last year. The development studio laid off 25% of their staff in order to be “more competitive as a developer and publisher of groundbreaking story-driven gaming experiences with an emphasis on high quality in the years ahead.”
The Wolf Among Us: A Telltale Game Series was inspired by the Fables comic series created by Bill Willingham. Telltale released the first 5-episode season in October 2013, and it follows Bigby Wolf, werewolf and sheriff of Fabletown. As sheriff, it is Bigby’s job to keep the other fairytale characters in Fabletown in line and to keep them from revealing their true identities. With Snow White, Bloody Mary, Mr. Toad, Ichabod Crane, and many more, this is a much darker take on the fairy tales you may know.
