I hate driving at night and not just because I have terrible eyesight. There’s something terrifying about driving the roads after dark, all alone, in the middle of nowhere. You think seeing another person would make you feel better….That is until you see two headlights pull out behind you. While super early in development, Beware, an indie project by Ondrej Svadlena, plays on this very fear!
According to their IndieDB page:
Beware is currently in early development. At the base, it’s an open-world driving simulation where the player embarks on a long journey of information-gathering through exploration. One of the gameplay elements are intense, 70’s movies style, car chases with challenging AI opponents. There are stealth element too where you can avoid being detected and explore the world undisturbed.
The demo is currently available for Windows PC, and it is quickly gaining attention in the Let’s Play community. Beware, previously known as Driving Survival, starts simply enough; you’re in a car parked in the middle of a muddy trailer park. Once you get to the road, there’s nothing much to see….until you see the brightly lit building around the corner.
As you pass the building, a car pulls out behind you with blindingly bright headlights. No big deal, right? Maybe not, until you notice they are all wearing some sort of masks. It quickly becomes evident that the other car is tailing you as they try to run you off the road. Stopping the car doesn’t guarantee your safety as the terrifying brutes jump from the car to begin pummeling your vehicle.
Beware is promised to be full of additional terrifying characters and puzzles to solve. Apparently, the map is huge, and horror fans can only hope that there will be tons to explore. At the moment, the story isn’t exactly clear, but being so early in development, it has plenty of time to develop.
