Recap of EA’s E3 2018 Conference — It Was About What You’d Expect

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or as it is lovingly referred, E3, started this week, and EA began the press conferences Saturday afternoon. From a new Star Wars title to a sequel to the beloved Unravel, here is a short recap of everything shown at their E3 show!

Battlefield V

The team at DICE announced some new additions to Battlefield V, which was announced earlier this year. As shown in the trailer above, the environments are now totally destructible. There’s no running from tanks now as they can easily roll through buildings, leaving mass chaos in their wake. In a completely shocking move, Battlefield V will also feature a “reimagined” battle-royale mode and more information is set to release later this year. However, more of the game will be shown at Microsoft’s conference on Sunday.

Respawn’s Jedi: The Fallen Order

Respawn’s Vince Zampella announced they are working closely with George Lucas to create a new Star Wars game. Jedi: The Fallen Order takes place in the “dark times” between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. A tweet released on Twitter, This is “an original Star Wars story around a surviving Padawan set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode III.” It is set to release Holiday of 2019, and yes; you will get to fight with a lightsaber!

Sports, Sports, Sports!

What would an EA conference be without a few sports titles? FIFA 1was announced with a cinematic trailer and a release date for September 28, 2018, was revealed. Madden is making its way to the PC, and a trailer for Madden Overdrivea new mobile game, was released. Available August 15, the free update allows “you [to] compete in real-time PvP, strategize with NFL Captains and Coaches, and experience the gridiron like never before with realistic physics, new animations, and broadcast-style presentation.”

Origins Access Premier Streaming Service

EA announced a new tier in their paid subscription service. Beginning sometime this summer, for $100 a year, gamers will have full access to EA titles before they are released, anytime and anywhere. If this is a bit too deep for your pockets, the basic tier is only $30 a year, but you won’t receive EA’s full line-up and you can’t access them early.

Clone Wars is Coming to Star Wars Battlefront II

After the total fiasco that was the release of Star Wars Battlefront II, EA announced that the title would be getting a ton of new stuff this year that majority revolves around The Clone Wars. General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker will all make an appearance as new, playable characters. There will also be new maps, squad system, starfighter mode, and a command-post capture mode.

Unravel Two Available Now!

Unravel Two is the next part of Yarny’s story, and now he has a friend! While it now has co-op gameplay, the game looks as beautiful and heartwarming as the first. Don’t fret, the developers were sure to stress that Unravel Two can totally be enjoyed by a single player. And, if you’re like me and can’t wait for this to release, you don’t have to! The sequel is available right now for $19.99 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC!

New Indie Project Sea of Solitude

“When humans get too lonely, they turn into monsters. That’s what happened to Kay. But she’s not alone – this ocean is full of creatures just like her. Finding them may be the key to changing her back.” Presented by Writer and Creative Director, Cornelia Geppert, Sea of Solitude is the newest indie EA is set to publish on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

And, of course, Anthem

Anthem, the newest action-RPG from Bioware, is set to release in February 22 of next year. Along with the cinematic trailer shown above, more of the actual gameplay was shown after an onstage interview with executive producer Mark Darrah and lead writer Cathleen Rootsaert. Although definitely reminiscent of Destiny, the combat seemed smooth and precise whether on land, airborne, underwater, or even with a heavy tank defense.

In an incredibly smart move, Anthem will not have loot boxes of any kind, but the exo suits, or “Javelin,” will be fully customizable.

And there you have it! Which one of EA’s titles are you looking forward to the most? I can’t wait to get my hands on Unravel Two, and Sea of Solitude is definitely an indie project to keep an eye on. But let us know your opinion in the comments below!
