Without any complaints from anyone, Nintendo spent a good majority of their Nintendo Direct conference detailing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and there is plenty to dig through. Oh, and in case you missed it, the next Smash title will release later this year on December 7!
For starters, every fighter from past Super Smash titles will be playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (that’s over 60 fighters!). In the beginning, only the original roster of fighters will be available, but the others will be unlocked as you play. Even the fighters from DLC’s, like Bayonetta and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, will be included. And, back by popular demand, Snake from the Metal Gear series, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the Ice Climbers will also receive an invitation to the brawl. Any new fighters? Well, Inklings from Splatoon and the much-requested Ridley from Metroid are joining the fight!
The video included above details all of the changes coming to some of our favorite characters. From move sets to multiple costumes and genders, a lot of the characters are getting a major overhaul. Pokemon Trainer can be played as male or female and can switch between Pokemon with no consequence; Link will feature moves showcased in Breath of the Wild; Even Cappy from Super Mario Odyssey makes an appearance. But that is seriously just the beginning.
But wait, there’s more! Nintendo GameCube controllers will be compatible with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it is unclear as to whether or not Nintendo will be creating new GameCube controllers to go with it. Your Amiibos will also continue to work on the Switch version, regardless of what series they came from. By using the Amiibos, players can even transfer their data from one system to the other.
December 7 can’t come soon enough, but are you as excited as we are? Is there a new fighter you’re desperately hoping for? Let us know in the comments below!
