First Set Photos from the Monster Hunter Film Don’t Look Promising

There’s nothing that will make a gamer cringe faster than letting them know a film adaptation of their favorite game is in the works. The first photos of Netflix’s Witcher series were berated by fans, and don’t even get me started on the Assasin’s Creed or Warcraft films. That being said, it should be no surprise that the first set photos from the Monster Hunter film will leave fans less than disappointed.

Milla Jovovich, star of the monster hunting film and the Resident Evil franchise, has uploaded a series of set photos to her Instagram account, and, understandably so, the internet is not happy. While modern weapons have been seen within the Monster Hunter franchise before, I think it’s safe to assume that this isn’t exactly what fans were expecting.

Monster Hunter

According to a report when the film was first announced, director Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil franchise, Mortal Kombat) described the plot as, “An ordinary man in a dead end job discovers that he is actually the descendant of an ancient hero. He must travel to a mystical world to train to become a Monster Hunter, before the mythical creatures from that world destroy ours.”

Kotaku reports that the Monster Hunter film will focus on a UN military team that must learn the ways of the Monster Hunter; therefore, we are led to believe that, at some point, the group will drop the military grade weapons for an Insect Glaive and a Bowgun. But, in reality, we can only hope that this is the case.

Monster Hunter

According to Anderson, he sees this playing out much like the Star Wars films, and he already has plans for at least two Monster Hunter films. Sadly enough, fans should expect the films to get the same treatment as the Resident Evil franchise: Anderson will basically do what he wants.
